Today KIGT was at the CARMAX in Ontario, California where two terrific people received keys to their new Plug-In Cars. Both drivers were excited when Assemblyman Freddie Rodriguez of the 52nd district in the Inland Empire presented them with keys to a new plug-in lifestyle.
Both drivers were recipients of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Replace Your Ride Program. One of the recipients was formerly homeless and sleeping in her car before the Replace Your Ride Program helped improve her situation. The Honda Fit Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV) she now drives was able to help her save $200 a month. As a result this extra income from never having to pay for gas again, helped her travel to temp. agency field work opportunities. As a result she earned more income, over the course of a few months and she was able to afford getting an apartment with a roommate.
Literally her PHEV changed her life.
The Replace Your Ride (RYR) helps curious Plug-In Car Drivers with low-moderate income residing in specified Southern California cities. You can be eligible to receive up to $9,500 and low-interest financing to replace their ride. Additionally you could be eligible to receive up to $2,000 to purchase and install a 220 Volt Charge Station at your residence. You must currently own a 2009 or older operational vehicle that they would be willing to scrap in order to be able to participate in the RYR program and receive the down payment assistance.
