Groundbreaking EV Charging with Solar Project at Los Angeles Church includes STEM.
Did you know a vast majority of non-profit organizations want EV Charging Stations and Solar? Which is why KIGT, is thrilled to announce that we will be working with Victory Baptist Church on the first Solar and EV Charging Station project for a Faith-Based Organization in South Los Angeles.
KIGT is glad that we will be working with our partner American Solar Advantage, one of the premier residential and commercial solar companies in Southern California.
This will be a ZERO Cost infrastructure development project for the church and will feature a solar carport in the parking lot to compliment the five (5) EV charging stations that will be installed. American Solar Advantage will also install solar on the roof of the church with a 17 kilowatt (kW) system. The rooftop solar will offset 100% of the churches energy usage and as a result will reduce the monthly electricity cost.
The solar carport will include a 140 kW system projected to produce 219,101 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually. The solar carport can be a revenue source for 25 years due to the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Program offered by Los Angeles Department Water and Power (LADWP).
The Level 2 MINI 5 eChargers to be installed at Victory Baptist will provide affordable and accessible EV charging for the members of the church and non-members from the surrounding community. Later stage aspects of the project may include battery storage to accommodate DC Fast Charging Stations.
Victory, will also generate ancillary income from the advertising revenue that is displayed on the MINI 5 eCharger touchscreen.
This project will do more than help the church earn and save money. This project will also give the people from the surrounding community the opportunity to contribute in the form of jobs. KIGT will hire local contractors to conduct the electrical installation and concrete work.
Simultaneously, the green-tech infrastructure will provide a learning platform for Victory's non-profit organization, Victory Community Foundation.
In 2018, Victory Community Foundation offered a Summer STEM program in partnership with KIGT. Together we taught elementary and middle school students basic software coding, 3D CAD Design, and 3D Modeling. The kids really enjoyed the field trip we took the last week of the program to Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI).
Once the EV Chargers and Solar are installed at the church, we will use them as teaching tools to familiarize the children for what their future has in-store. This will help them adapt and prepare for the upcoming era of green-tech jobs.
This stellar project is a major breakthrough because traditionally underserved communities are the last to adopt newer technologies that can enhance the quality of life for the community.
